The Play

Tension, menace, fear, doubt, uncertainty – these create the pervading atmosphere of The Birthday Party.

Set in a run-down boarding house run by Meg and Petey, the play centres on Stanley, an indolent and reclusive ex-professional pianist who has taken refuge in the house.

The 'party' is an impromptu one for Stanley, suggested by McCann and Goldberg, two sinister and unexpected visitors who appear to have a hidden, unspecified agenda directed towards the ultimate destruction of Stanley.
