We always knew that JB Priestley's classic drama was going to attract plenty of attention, but ticket sales for this Next Stage production were unprecedented, with some nights selling out six weeks before the actual performance. By the week of the run we were still receiving up to 20 ticket requests an hour, from GCSE students, friends and theatre goers, many of whom had never visited The Mission before. And these diverse audiences were not disappointed. The production received acclaim night after night for the innovative staging, first-class acting and emotive lighting. The unique in-the-round setting allowed the audience to really become part of the action and immerse themselves in the plight of the Birlings, a middle-class family whose values and morals are destroyed over the course of one evening.
Jackie Chappell from the Bath Chronicle said the company "brought new life to the play", and the production was a treat for both those who were familiar with the story as well as audience members who were experiencing the Inspector's visit for the first time. You can read the whole review here.
