Educating Rita by Willy Russel

Educating+Rita.jpg

The play is set in a room of a Victorian built university in the North of England. Rita, common, uneducated, blunt and brash is hungry for education and some purpose to her working class existence. Enrolled on an Open University course she finds her tutor is Frank who, with a failed marriage, a thwarted poetic talent and a drink problem, stares through jaundiced eyes back down the literary 'telescope' Rita has so eagerly seized. Throughout the play an education is given and received, but who teaches who, is debatable!
