Throughout January and the first weeks of February 2008 Next Stage
actors visited Marksbury primary school for a two hour drama
workshop session every Monday afternoon with year 5 pupils. The Next
Stage team had been asked to devise a series of tailor made
workshops on the theme Living In The Mountains. On the last
visit, the pupils rehearsed and presented a 45 minute showcase of
some of their best work. The pupils had learnt about different
mountain environments, had explored dangers and disasters, tourism
and trekking, Fauna and Flora, the importance of teamwork and the
music of the mountains. They had enjoyed miming and improvising
scenes, taking part in team building activities and working in pairs
and groups with the actors. Not only had the workshops helped to
enhance the pupils' classroom studies but by the final session, the
Next Stage facilitators were impressed at how well the young actors
were able to perform to, and entertain, the rest of the school.
